Basic railway:
High Speed Railway available from Era 3
Electric Railway available from Era 5
This opens a Sub-Menu with 8-10 options (depending on era and preset) for building railway tracks. The building tools are identical for all three types of railway:
- Railway
This option allows you to build railway tracks by dragging the tool across the map, complex junctions can be created by joining the lines together.
- Remover
This tool will remove only railway tracks and signals, it will not affect non-railway related options. It will allow you to select a single section of track, making it a more precise alternative to the Bulldoze tool. Also, by holding the mouse button and dragging, you can select whole section of the track to be removed. You can remove signal separately, however; if you remove piece of track containing signal, the signal will be deleted, too.
- Upgrade/Degrade tool
(Available from Era 3) it allows you to change the whole section of track to a different type. You can either select a section of the track by clicking on single piece - will select the whole length from station to next complex crossing or switch. Or you can mark rectangle on the map (by dragging the mouse cursor while holding left mouse button) and it will change all tracks within the marked area.
- Depot
Builds a Depot building to enable trains to be purchased in order to run on the railway
- Station
Builds a Station, initially the max length is only 6 tiles. Building a new station in an adjacent tile to an existing station results in them being combined to form a single station.
- Bridge
Builds a Bridge between 2 points, the bridge must be perpendicular to the grids to work, gradients on bridges are allowed.
- Tunnel
Builds a Tunnel between 2 points, the tunnel must be perpendicular to the grids to work, gradients on tunnels are allowed.
- Signals
Depending on the Advanced Game Setting there will be either one (for auto signal) or two (for manual selection of block and chain signals) icons for placing signals. Please refer to Signals page for more details.
- Multisignal tool
This allows you to place multiple signals on long section of the track (between switches and/or stations) with single click. By using the small + and - icons beside the tool, you can set the distance (in squares) between those signals.
