Aircraft complement your other transport. They are great for transferring cargo quickly over long distances and to supply hard-to-reach areas (small islands, high mountains and such).
Different aircraft require different length of the runway. This info you can see in the hangar when you're buying an aircraft, and also in the table below. Moreover, some aircraft require the modern airport, so you need to upgrade it before such airplane can land on it.

Passenger Aircraft Icon passengers.png

Passenger transportation is the main source of Money Tokens Token money.png in this game. Passenger airplanes are used to transport Passengers Icon passengers.png between towns. Passengers Icon passengers.png arriving at a town will also increase the town size. Also, if you have enabled Passenger Destination, (which is strongly recommended for using air transport) the people will automatically transfer between airplanes and other modes of transportation. That way you can build airports outside of the towns to avoid the airport pollution penalty.

Mail Aircraft Icon mail.png

Another way of generating Money Tokens Token money.png in the game is to deliver Mail Icon mail.png between Post Offices. These buildings appear in the Steam Era and they show up in all towns on the map. Mail Icon mail.png works in a similar manner to passengers Icon passengers.png, including Passenger Destination with automatic transfer of the Mail Icon mail.png between trucks, trains and airplanes.
Delivering Mail Icon mail.png also contributes to the town growth.
