Foundry Plain.png

The Foundry converts Coal Icon coal.png and Iron Ore Icon iron ore.png. Both resources are produced by coal mines and iron ore mines which both need transporting to a foundry in order for them to be converted into Iron ingots Icon iron.png. It is used to produce Iron Tokens Token iron.png in Toolworks and to produce Steel Icon steel.png in Steelworks. Iron ingots Icon iron.png are also needed to complete Ruined Church challenge. Foundries are an Era II buildings, therefore when transitioning from the Early Steam Era to the Steam Era several Foundries will appear in random locations across the map.

Processes

The base building of the Foundry consumes 3 units of Coal Icon coal.png and 3 units of Iron Ore Icon iron ore.png producing 3 Iron ingots Icon iron.png and 2 Coal Tokens Token coal.png every Game tick. There are two extensions that can be added to the foundry immediately. Of these two, the Blast Furnace offers a more balanced process, requiring equal amounts Coal Icon coal.png and Iron Ore Icon iron ore.png, while providing a large increase to production output of the foundry. There is another Improved Blast Furnace extension available in later era. Overall, a fully upgraded Foundry without electrification will consume 14 units of Coal Icon coal.png and 13.5 units of Iron Ore Icon iron ore.png while producing 13.5 Iron ingots Icon iron.png and 6 Coal Tokens Token coal.png every Game tick.

The base building and the Sheet Metal Mill extension can be connected to the electrical network E energy.png from Era 5 onward, which will further increase their production of Iron ingots Icon iron.png without increasing the raw material consumption. The amount of electrification production bonus is shown in the brackets at each building.
Moreover, special extension (Electric Arc Furnace) becomes available. This extension works only when electrified. It uses the electricity instead of the coal and consumes 3 units of Iron Ore Icon iron ore.png producing another 3 Iron ingots Icon iron.png and 1 Electricity Token Token electricity.png.
