The Coal Mine is the main source of Coal , which can be sent for processing at Toolworks to become Coal Tokens or it can be combined with Iron Ore at a Foundry to create Iron and Coal Tokens . In 4th era coal is being used as fuel to produce steel in steelworks and from 5th era on it is needed as fuel in Coal Power Plant to generate electricity. Thus coal mining becomes critical throughout the whole game.
Processes
The base version of the Coal Mine generates 1 Coal per Game tick. The capacity of the mine can be extended using 5 extension buildings that can be built on adjacent tiles to the base Coal Mine building. Three of the extensions providing increase to the Coal output of the mine could be build immediately. The Second Hearframe will be available in 2dn era and the Third Headframe will become available in 5th era of the game. Of all extensions the Second and Third Headframes provide the largest increase to Coal production. The Timber Tunnel Supports extension adds a new process that consumes Timber while providing another large increase to Coal production. When all extensions are built around a Coal Mine, it consumes 0.5 Timber and produces 8 Coal per Game tick.
Some of the buildings can be connected to the electrical network from Era 5 onward, which will increase their production. The amount of electrification production bonus (if applicable) is shown in the brackets at each extension.
