The Railways are used for building Train infrastructure. Railways are divided into several types, each with its own speed limit and building cost. As game progresses, better railway types become available. Some railway types are compatible with others, like the basic Railway and High-Speed Railway. Based on how future railway types function in TTD, Monorail and Maglev might not be compatible with older railway types and older engines, requiring complete rebuild of the entire railway network.
